During the height of South Africa’s 2010 World Cup festivities, I decided not to return to the United States for high school. I changed my life that year, and I made a similar decision when I decided to move to Johannesburg, South Africa at the end of 2018.
On December 28, 2018 I boarded a one way flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg in time for Afropunk 2018. I thought I would produce content for myself at Afropunk, but instead I published content for Once Travel. Not long after the event, my first official day as the Content Manager at Slikour On Life approached.
This month, I will be celebrating my third anniversary with this blog, with you. Admittedly, I have been quiet and aloof for the first few months of the year. To explain, since starting at Slikour On Life, I’ve relocated cities, started a new job, moved into my first apartment, and experienced more “adulting” than I care to recollect. Now I have to find out what to do with this platform and how to keep its meaning intact.
I’ve given this platform the best and worst of me over the years. I have more to give, but I need to find better ways to share. Until the next post, I love you all, thank you for your participation, and if you’re in Johannesburg, don’t be shy to say “hi.”
